The fight against DUST!!
Well had a client this morning complaining that the pc was cutting out a lot.
This is sometimes a classic sign of Dust getting into the fan and slowing things down a little. Very often the Heatsink gets clogged with dust and cant dispurse the heat as well as it should. So it ends up over heating and the PC restarting.
Opening up the case i blew away the light layering of dust that there was and revealed this.
If you look closely at the heatsink through the blades of the fan you can see the compacted dust.
Taking it apart and simply giving it a good blow out is a great idea. If you are going to try this yourself you will need some heatsink compound to re-attach the heatsink to the processor. So don’t attempt this unless you have this compound. If you try it without the heat wont disperse from the processor to the heatsink properly and will cut out every five or ten minutes as soon as the processor gets hot.
